Custom Designed Ginger Jar-inspired Ceramic Christmas Ornaments
Since 2025, Poppy & Pepper’s founder and designer, Shiàoh, has been creating distinctive Christmas ornaments in her Melbourne studio. Each year, she releases a limited collection of one-of-a-kind, ginger jar–inspired designs — available exclusively on the Poppy & Pepper website and at selected design markets.
Now, you can commission custom ornaments for your home, office, or special event!
Before sharing your vision for this year’s tree, we invite you to read through the frequently asked questions below. This will help outline the process and provide important details about timelines, minimum orders, and production.
(If you are ordering for a retail store, gallery, museum, or gift shop, please visit our page for stockists and retail partners.)
What is the minimum order quantity, and why is there one?
For both custom orders and selections from existing designs, the minimum order is 10 ornaments (including Ginger Jar flat ornaments). If you are after a smaller quantity, Shiàoh occasionally has ready-made ornaments available to purchase.
Each ornament is handcrafted by Shiàoh through multiple stages, including at least two kiln firings. To maintain an efficient studio workflow, Shiàoh produces them in batches rather than individually.
Batch production allows for consistency and quality, while each piece still requires two or more hours of hands-on work — making a minimum order necessary for a small artisan studio.
When should I place my order for the upcoming Christmas season?
Shiàoh begins taking orders from July each year. If you would like to reserve production time in advance while finalising your design, a $150 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your booking.
How long does my order take to make?
For an order of 10 ornaments, production takes approximately 2 weeks, or up to 4 weeks during peak season, before dispatch. We recommend reaching out to confirm current timelines during the busy pre-Christmas period.
How much do these ornaments cost?
Prices start from $35 per ornament. More intricate designs, detailed decoration, special finishes (such as mother-of-pearl or gold lacquer), and premium embellishments (such as lights and premium-quality bells) may increase the price to up to $70 per ornament.
You will be asked a few questions about your preferences in the next section.
Can I customise shapes, sizes, or colours?
Unfortunately, shapes and sizes cannot be customised due to the extensive development process required to design and produce ceramic moulds. However, there are currently 18 different ginger jar designs available to choose from, with more to come.
You are welcome to share photos or references of your desired colour palette, and Shiàoh will do her best to match them. However, due to the nature of ceramic glazes and firing processes, exact colour matching is not possible.
What can't be customised?
- Gold lacquer lettering or personalised names
- Built-in music or specific lighting devices
- Alternative clay or glaze options that aren’t available in Shiàoh’s studio inventory
- Materials that are not part of Shiàoh’s studio inventory
How are ornaments packed?
Ornaments are carefully packed in groups of 2 or 4 in Poppy & Pepper’s signature gift boxes. If you intend to give them as gifts, please request Shiàoh to pack them individually or in specific groups.
What are payment terms?
Full payment is required upfront for custom orders. Shiàoh will prepare your order and send a secure payment link via the Poppy & Pepper website to your email.
We accept credit cards, PayPal, and Afterpay.
How much does shipping cost? Can I cancel, return, or refund my order?
Shipping follows the same rates as other Poppy & Pepper ceramic pieces. We offer FREE standard shipping within Australia for orders over $250. Please refer to our Shipping page for full details.
Custom orders are non-refundable. However, if you have any concerns about your order, please reach out — Shiàoh will always do her best to assist.
If you need to cancel your order, the refundable amount will depend on the stage of production. A minimum of 25% of the order value is non-refundable, and once production is significantly underway or completed, up to 100% may be non-refundable.
Will photos of my custom order be shared online?
From time to time, Shiàoh may photograph and share custom-made ornaments on the Poppy & Pepper website, Poppy & Pepper and Shiàoh’s social media platforms, and other brand materials for portfolio and promotional purposes.
By placing a custom order, you agree to our Terms & Conditions and remain protected under our Privacy Policy. Personal information will never be shared, and if your order is intended to be private or a surprise, please let us know — we are happy to respect your request wherever possible.
