A stunning gradient glaze paired with an embossed tile depicting an Australian animal – the defining features of this collection’s unique charm.
Inspired by the ancient way ceramic artists would use small tiles to sign their work, we’ve taken the design style but instead used tiles to depict Australian animals. The tiles are created using digital 3D sculpting and printing techniques, and then hand-mounted onto the handmade ceramic mugs. We wanted each animal to have a personality, with a distinctive expression that complements their individuality. The gradient glaze, too, is selected to symbolise the animal; its matte finish produces a beautiful and organic look and feel.
Handmade integrity, individual quality
Using a distinctive glazing technique, we blend various colours to induce chemical reactions in the intense 1300-degree heat of a gas kiln. As the fire dances around the glazes, they undergo a mesmerising transformation – flowing, crystallising, changing colour. Consequently, while each animal type shares a common gradient colour palette, the glazing style means no two mugs are ever the same – each has its own inherent uniqueness.
