Neo Latte Cups

Material

Gas-fired stoneware enhanced with a gradient burnt sienna glaze finish.

Craftsmanship process

We began by digitally designing and 3D sculpting the larger patterns, followed by hand-carving the intricate textures. For these latte cups, we used a glaze-on-glaze method: dipping the cups into a glaze bucket, then applying more glaze along the edges with a refined brush, allowing it to flow naturally and create trails of pale beige tones. Finally, we gas-fired the stoneware, often repeating the process to achieve the perfect glaze colour.

Design

The design of these cups is inspired by ancient pottery unearthed at the Sanxingdui archaeological site in Sichuan, China. The patterns are influenced by pottery remnants from the Neolithic era of ancient China, capturing the rich history of this period.

Great for sharing a latte, or a cup of mulled wine, holding Grissini sticks, or cocktail prawns.

IMPORTANT

We photographed our Neo ceramic collection outdoors, under the warm glow of natural sunlight and surrounded by the shade of flourishing gum trees. In post-production, we made careful adjustments to ensure the colours were perfectly accurate.

Our Burnt Sienna glaze presents a stunning gradient, moving from a soft, pale beige with fine crazing to a deep, rich brick-red. The glaze flows uniquely across each piece, creating a range of tones that highlight the dynamic nature of the design.

The glaze settles beautifully into the hand-carved textures, bringing out the intricate patterns and enhancing the natural beauty of the uneven surfaces.

Each piece is entirely handmade and hand-glazed, ensuring that every item is one-of-a-kind. The glaze’s movement through the textures may differ from piece to piece, reflecting the individual artistry and craftsmanship involved. These subtle differences add to the charm and authenticity of Poppy & Poppy ceramics.

These ceramics are microwave and dishwasher safe with proper care. To prevent damage to the glaze, avoid letting items touch in the dishwasher.

To protect your wares from thermal shock, never expose them to sudden temperature changes, such as transferring from oven to cold surfaces or from freezer to oven. Always place cold items on a wire rack in the oven and hot items on a cloth or wooden surface to avoid damage.
