Craftsmanship process

We began by digitally designing and 3D sculpting the larger patterns, followed by hand-carving the intricate textures. For this bowl, we applied a glaze-on-glaze method: pouring glaze into the bowl and letting it spread before applying another layer via spraying. Finally, we gas-fired the stoneware, often repeating the process to achieve the perfect glaze colour.

Design

These bowls are inspired by a classic Neolithic pottery bowl found at the Sanxingdui archaeological site in Sichuan, China. The patterns are drawn from memories and feature a hidden figure representing feminism.

IMPORTANT

We photographed our Neo ceramic collection in the open air, under the warm natural sunlight and the canopy of lush gum trees. In post-production, we meticulously fine-tuned the images to ensure the colours were true to life.

The Burnt Sienna glaze offers a captivating spectrum, ranging from a delicate, pale beige with faint crazing to a deep, rich brick-red. The unique flow of the glaze creates a variety of shades across each piece, adding depth and character.

As the glaze interacts with the hand-carved patterns and textures, it beautifully accentuates the uneven surfaces, enhancing the natural beauty of each piece.

Handcrafted and hand-glazed, each ceramic in our collection is entirely unique. The flow of the glaze through the designs varies from one item to the next, showcasing the skilled craftsmanship behind every piece. These natural differences are part of the distinctive charm and character of Poppy & Poppy ceramics, and they should be celebrated as such.

Safe for both dishwasher and microwave use with proper care. To avoid glaze scratches, ensure that wares do not touch each other in the dishwasher.

Avoid sudden temperature changes, such as placing hot items directly onto cold surfaces or transferring from freezer to oven, as this can cause thermal shock and damage the ceramics. For best results, always place cold items on a wire rack in the oven and hot items onto a cloth or wooden surface.
