Material

Stoneware fired with gas and finished with a gradient burnt sienna glaze coating.

Craftsmanship process

The patterns are first digitally created and 3D printed onto plaster moulds. Shiàoh then hand-carves textures onto the patterns and the interior of the moulds. The platters are slip-cast, with each mould weighing around 80kg! Our Neo Fish Platter is handmade in small batches. We apply a splattering glaze technique to create water splatters on the surface, then spray glaze around and inside it. The platters are then fired once or twice, depending on the desired outcome of the glaze colour.

Design

The patterns are designed to evoke both wildlife and household pets, finished with intricate textures hand-carved by our Creative Director, Shiàoh, on the moulds. A Paper Rock Scissors game is debossed into the platter for a playful touch.

IMPORTANT

Our Neo ceramic collection was photographed outdoors, capturing the natural beauty of sunlight filtering through the canopy of lush gum trees. In post-production, we fine-tuned the colours to ensure each piece was portrayed with perfect accuracy.

The Burnt Sienna glaze features a diverse range, transitioning from a soft, light beige with delicate crazing to a bold, textured brick-red. The glaze’s flow across each piece creates a variety of tones, showcasing its dynamic nature.

As the glaze settles into the hand-carved textures, it naturally highlights the detailed patterns, enhancing the one-of-a-kind appearance of each piece.

Each item in our collection is 100% handcrafted and hand-glazed, ensuring that no two pieces are identical. The way the glaze moves through the patterns and textures varies from piece to piece, reflecting the craftsmanship and care that goes into each creation. These variations are part of the charm and authenticity of Poppy & Poppy ceramics.

Microwave and dishwasher safe with proper care. To protect the glaze from scratches, ensure that items don’t come into contact with each other in the dishwasher.

To prevent thermal shock and potential damage, avoid sudden temperature changes, such as moving from a hot oven to a cold surface or transferring from freezer to oven. For best results, place cold dishes on a wire rack in the oven and hot dishes on a cloth or wooden surface.
