Material

Stoneware crafted from ceramic clay with two tone glaze.

Craftsmanship process

Each claypot is fully hand thrown from a block of clay. Handles are hand rolled and mounted on the pot, and the lid is also hand thrown and punched with an air ventilation hole. The Jishan and Poppy & Pepper brands are stamped at the bottom of each pot.

For the glaze, the pot and lid are sprayed with a cream colour before the donut patterns are revealed using a removable glue. Then they’re sprayed with dark chocolate glaze, including on the inside of the pot and lid. The bottom of the pot is unglazed. Finally, the pots are fired at 1280 degrees.

Design

This limited collection was co-designed by Jishan and Poppy & Pepper. Our goal was to create classically shaped claypots, crafted from the highest quality ceramic, and finished with a unique design. Each piece is made to be as functional as it is beautiful. Generous handles and lid handle provide a comfortable grip, a flat lid for resting a spoon on top, a large belly carries more food than expected from its compact size, while a wide opening presents a nice view of the food and allows for big scoops from the pot.

Versatility

Suitable for all recipes compatible with a claypot. Perfect for a nutritious meal like baked chilli and tomato baked eggs, or a comforting dinner such as chicken soup with goji berries and daikon!

Note: We photographed our claypots under studio lighting and corrected in post-production to ensure colour accuracy. The 100% hand-crafted nature of these claypots means every piece is unique and slightly different in dimension and volume. The hand painted patterns appear different in position, size, orientation and shape across all claypots, no two are the same, – that’s part of the design.

The glaze reacts and settles differently on each claypot, you may see noticeable ‘glaze bubbles’ on the exterior of the pot that reveal the first layer of creamy glaze, – they are not faults, but a natural glaze reaction on the clay body which happens during firing. All differences in appearance stand for Jishan and Poppy & Pepper’s handmade ceramics nature and add to their charm.

Pattern: Donut symbols are hand painted around the body of the claypot and lid in various position and orientation, in a scattered pattern style.

Glaze: The claypot features a cream-colored base layer for the pattern, topped with a semi-matte dark chocolate glaze both inside and out. The bottom remains unglazed for a natural, raw finish.

Style: A deep claypot with a lid, designed in a contemporary East Asian style.

Branding & Packaging: Both the Poppy & Pepper and Jishan brands are stamped on the bottom of the claypot. Each pot comes individually packaged in a branded box.
