We’ve taken the deep, rich colours of the red earth from the Australian Outback and merged them with Neolithic pottery designs found across various archaeological sites in China. The result is a curated collection of substantial wares, adorned with spontaneous patterns that are both symbolic and literal.
Our Creative Director, Shiàoh, believes that unique design must incorporate personal expression. She began by creating the patterns digitally, which were then brought to life through 3D sculpting. Afterward, she carved organic textures into the surface of the moulds.
The highlight of the creation process is the glaze.
We were determined to capture the true essence of the red earth—not just a plain metallic red, but one rich with character. Shiàoh embarked on a journey through the streets of glaze shops in Jingdezhen, which was only the beginning. The result, which we call “burnt sienna,” is the product of multiple rounds of experiments and tests.
When applied thick, the glaze vitrifies in subtly crazed, white tone. When applied thin, it reveals a dark red shines through the rustic stoneware.
We had a lot of fun experimenting with different glazing techniques. The glaze floods over the rough patterns and textures, and through strategically applied techniques, our artisans bring out the distinctive features of each piece.
