Made of stoneware clay high fired in gas kiln, coated in burnt sienna gradient glaze

Craftsmanship process

The patterns are first digitally created and 3D printed onto plaster moulds, then Shiàoh hand-carves textures onto both the patterns and the interior of the moulds. The platters are slip-cast, with each mould weighing around 80kg! Our Universal Platter is handmade in small batches. We apply a splattering glaze technique to create the water splatters on the surface, then spray glaze around and inside it. For these small dishes, we used a glaze-on-glaze technique: first, dipping the dishes into a glaze bucket, then carefully applying additional glaze along the edges with a fine brush. This allows the glaze to flow naturally, creating beautiful trails of pale beige tones. Finally, the platters are fired once or twice, depending on the desired outcome of the glaze colour.

Design

Flowing patterns are moulded around the platter, with gritty textures both inside and outside, giving it a natural, organic feel and a distinct artisanal touch.

Versatility

Perfect for presenting large cooked dishes, cooking-free meals like grazing or charcuterie boards, as well as grilled meats and vegetables.

IMPORTANT

Our Neo ceramic collection was photographed outdoors, bathed in natural sunlight and framed by the shade of vibrant gum trees. In post-production, we ensured precise colour adjustments for an accurate representation of each piece.

The Burnt Sienna glaze offers a striking range of colours, from a soft, creamy beige with subtle crazing to a deep, textured brick-red. The tones vary across the surface of each piece, depending on the natural flow of the glaze during application.

The glaze settles into the hand-carved textures, highlighting the intricate details and adding a beautiful, organic quality to the surface.

Crafted entirely by hand, each ceramic piece is unique. The flow of glaze and the way it interacts with the textures may differ from item to item, reflecting the personal touch of the artisan behind it. These natural variations are an essential part of the design and contribute to the one-of-a-kind beauty of Poppy & Poppy ceramics.

These ceramics are dishwasher and microwave safe with proper care. To prevent scratching the glaze, make sure items don’t touch each other in the dishwasher.

Avoid placing hot or cold items on surfaces that may cause thermal shock, such as moving from freezer to oven or oven to a cold bench. Always place cold dishes on a wire rack in the oven, and hot dishes on a soft cloth or wooden surface to protect them.
